Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Animal stirred up controversy after its theatrical release for being too violent and sexist. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, the movie has been both a box office hit and a magnet for mixed to negative audience reviews. Specific sequences and dialogues have ignited debates across social media platforms. Recently, Anurag Kashyap expressed that films like Animal shouldn't offend "educated" individuals. He referenced the criticism faced by the movie Kabir Singh as an example. During an interview with News18 Showsha, Kashyap mentioned he hasn't seen Animal yet but is knowledgeable about the ongoing discussions online. He emphasised that nobody should dictate to filmmakers what movies they should create. Kashyap highlighted the tendency in this country for people to easily take offence at films, including his own works. He hopes that educated individuals won't get offended at minor provocations. The Gangs Of Vasseypur fame director further mentioned that similar debates arose during the release of "Kabir Singh." Kashyap defended filmmakers' freedom to create and showcase their vision through any film they desire. While acknowledging that people can criticise, debate, and hold differing opinions about movies, he pointed out that films often serve to either provoke or evoke emotions. 

Kashyap expressed his acceptance and support for filmmakers who delve into making provocative cinema. He highlighted the subjective nature of morality, suggesting that a significant majority of Indian men possess traits akin to Kabir Singh. While addressing the issues within Shahid Kapoor starrer, the director also pointed out the lack of agency among the supporting characters, who primarily served to elevate the central character. Kashyap stressed the necessity of discussions focusing on these aspects, advocating for healthy debates rather than resorting to cancellation and standing against each other.


The filmmaker known for acclaimed hits like Black Friday and No Smoking said he hadn't watched the film yet but would call up Sandeep Reddy Vanga after watching it. Meanwhile, Animal is creating havoc at the box office. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer earned Rs 360 crore worldwide in the opening weekend.
